The ikandy bar is found in the opulent Shangri-La Hotel in the near financial centre of Dubai on the Sheikh Zayed Road. This poolside ultralounge found on the fourth floor is a bar full of shades of cute candy pink, while swathed in an ultraviolet glow to give the area a look of being rose tinted, with white fabric and palms which add to the feel of Arabian nights, as well as having the look of being around a pool in Miami or LA.
With the poolside bar being seasonal, it is only open between October and March to coincide with the best weather in Dubai, it is also closed during the holy month of Ramadan. Ikandy is an apt name for the bar as it is awash with really pretty people who flock to this bar, to hang out around the pool while sipping the many cocktails on offer here and chilling out to the soft music played by the resident DJ. The signature cocktails are highly recommended, both the “Showy Superstar” and “Balsamic Martinez” are laced with a number of different alcoholic drinks to make up the distinctive tastes that they provide. Money seems to be no problem here with a range of expensive champagnes also on sale here including 6 litre bottles of Belvedere.
The stunning views add to the atmosphere of the bar with the well-lit enormous Burj Khalifa in plain view from the pool area, and the fabulous views of the city skyline in the background this really is the place to be seen. Mezze bar nibbles are served here and if you are feeling really hungry and do not want to eat away from the bar, there is a barbecue that provides mixed grills, pizzas, kebabs and beef burger sliders to fill you up.
As with most bars in Dubai there are shisha pipes available to chill out with, there is a capacity here of 120 people, and is listed as one of the world’s best 100 bars, so you really must be here early to guarantee your entry. Monday is Ladies night where between 6pm and 9pm, complimentary pink bubbles (sparkling wine) is served, this can’t be just to draw in extra custom as this bar is nearly always packed to capacity. If you think that a Ladies night is slightly unfair then there is a Gentlemen’s night on Tuesday where free shisha is provided between the same time of 6pm – 9pm.
There is a minimum cost per person each night but that is normal in Dubai for a lot of the top bars and lounges. The service here is exemplary with nothing being too much trouble for its customers, they even provide heaters during colder evenings.
