The Dubai Dolphinarium is situated in Creek Park, and is a 5000sq meter man made modern facility that educates people on the mammals that would normally be found in the seas and oceans around the world. The Dolphinarium was opened in an inauguration ceremony in May 2008 by Ahmad Abdul Karim, Director of Public Parks and Horticulture Department in Dubai. The centre was the first indoor Dolphinarium in the Middle East to open and cost Dh33-million. Due to the heat of the outdoors, the centre is fully air conditioned and sets out to educate as well as entertain. The 1250 seat stadium is enveloped around a 30 x 16 meter salt water pool where a number of shows can be experienced.
The Dolphinarium in 2009 provided over 140,000 specially designed educational programs for both preschoolers and schoolchildren. These programs were given in an interactive format both in lessons and classes, where the schooling included topics such as marine life conservation and marine life. The Dolphinarium also offers the chance to swim with the dolphins and have a picture taken to remember the fantastic experience and show your friends what you achieved.
The view of the live dolphin and seal show is enjoyed in your cinema styled seats, where you will get to see Pacific and Black Sea Bottle-nose Dolphins and northern fur Seals. The Dolphinarium is extremely well equipped with a state of the art laser projection facility, high tech stage lighting and incredible audio system that would grace any nightclub. The centre also has a 100 seat restaurant and a large expanse of open areas which would prove a great place for exhibitions.
Water is a plenty here at the Dolphinarium as there is 4.5 million litres of sea water continuously purified in the arena pool, the habitat pool, medical and seal pool that the mammals live in. to ensure that the health and welfare of the mammals are second to none. Onsite is a marine mammal laboratory, specialised fish preparation rooms and a technical support area. It has been visited by over 640,000 guests and visitors of Dubai.
The Dolphinarium’s in-house educational workshops and programs are set up to teach children facts about marine life and the natural gentle loving behaviour of dolphins, as well as how pollution affects marine life and educates against causing pollution and looking after the sea life creatures from an early age.
So as you can see they like to educate as well as entertain, which is the most effective way for anyone to learn.
